I don’t know what’s happening to me guys, but I’m having really weird dreams lately, and it’s related to the Nidri waterfall, we’ve visited this day. It goes something like this: I wake up many times at night, in several days and I’m looking around, not knowing where I am, I start giving some sense to the surroundings. Every time, the walls would be the gorge leading to Nidri waterfall and the little light coming from the window, the waterfall itself. This resemblance is not really without a meaning, it’s actually pretty similar in terms of lighting, as in the Nidri gorges you make your way through some huge rocks, almost blocking the sky and the light, and in the end you get to the wonderful waterfall of Nidri, covered in light. Every time, I start looking at the walls, and say to myself: “Oh my gosh, this is so beautiful! These rocks are so high I can’t even see the sky! “, than I have a look at the window, and I go once again “Oh my! Soooo beautiful!”. One time I got up, sitting and starting admiring my walls and saying loudly “Oh sweetie, have a look! It’s Nidri! This is so beautiful!”. Then I started touching my walls, and I thought.. hmm these rocks are so smooth.. oh gosh, it’s not Nidri, these are my bedroom’s walls! Happy that I didn’t wake up my husband with my half real dream, I got back to sleep. I don’t know if this kind of things ever happened to you, but it’s really fascinating to dream with eyes opened but really strange that it’s repeating, at the same time. Now I’m sure I’ve made you really curious about this place. I don’t want to disappoint you guys, this place is very beautiful, but not as beautiful as in my dreams!
We’ve visited many places – all nice – this day, so I had to split this post in two. I still don’t know how we’ve made it in one day, considering also some of the obstacles we’ve encountered.
But first I’d like to show you the sunrise as I’ve seen it, this day. It starts to lighten slowly, then all of the sudden we’ve seen it come over the mountain..it was really beautiful. It’s the same place where the moon was rising at that time, also. From the balcony, we could see, far away, to the right, the village named Vassiliki, every time wondering how it looks like, we were so willing to see it closer.
We didn’t have the chance to pass near Vassiliki, even though we’ve explored many places from the island, traveling by car from the hotel to all the beaches but this day we passed near it on our way to Nidri. From this port you can take a boat to the astonishing, gem-looking bay of Agiofili, but let me tell you more about this on another post.
There are two reasons for our trip to Nidri. First of all it’s the beautiful, well known waterfall I told you about, then the cosmopolitan city itself. To get to the waterfall, you have to drive to Rachi village near the Nidri town, and follow the signs indicating the waterfall, still by car. When you get to a parking place, from where the gorges start, you’ll have to walk through the gorges for about 30 minutes to see the waterfall.
To get to the lighthouse we choose a very bad road(appropriate only for a 4×4), without knowing about other possibilities..but at least we had some nice views over the Porto Katsiki and the lighthouse.
We realized there was a good road leading to the lighthouse when we’ve intersected with it, but at least the bad road we’ve chosen was a shortcut.
On return we still chose the bad road, as it was closer to Porto Kasiki, our next stop. Now it was easier to go down the road on the steep slope. Let me tell you more about Porto Katsiki on another post.
