Naughty Boy – Runnin’ (Lose It All) ft. BeyoncĂ©, Arrow Benjamin

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen some of the pictures, from this trip. I visited Istanbul a few years ago, as well, but this time I returned for a different purpose, for which I might make a separate post in the future. I know it might seem exaggerated for some people, but there are different wishes and priorities for each one of us and this experience made me a lot happier.
Aside from that it’s a different experience to travel during the winter and in some ways it’s even more pleasant – less traffic, fewer tourist and the temperatures are more bearable..that is if I don’t consider the freezing walk we’ve had on the beach, which I don’t recommend at all during the winter since the wind near the sea is too strong and cold.
The day we arrived coincided with the tragic suicide bombing attack you’ve probably heard of and it happened close to our hotel, actually on our route to the well known tourist attractions: Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia. The near streets were all blocked and we had to avoid the area to get to the hotel. It is very strange that I actually told my husband a few days before going to Istanbul, that I can’t wait to visit, but too bad it is a hot area for terrorist attacks and fortunately we also decided to postpone our trip with one day for some reason. Even if it’s unlikely that another attempt would have followed right after, we had that feeling of insecurity for the entire period, especially in the crowded tourist sites, like Grand Bazar. It was actually funny, when we were having dinner at a restaurant near our hotel, we choose a table near a large window. We were waiting for our food to be served and while we were watching people passing by, I heard one of them screaming loudly, and I was like, OMG!! It’s a bomb!!! I felt the adrenalin rushing and I was searching for places to hide, while trying to spot where the man who was screaming is, then suddenly I realised he was only selling his tea! Haha!
We revisited some of the sites like Blue Mosque again, with Julieta, and we’ve also tried lots of different traditional and non-traditional sweets including the ones from the famous Haviz Mustafa. If I was to choose which is the most delicious dessert from them, well..I don’t know if I can choose, but I was very impressed with the strawberry white chocolate cake, even if I’m not a big fan of white chocolate, I have to admit I’ve literally gone made over this cake: it’s not too sweet, you can actually feel a special taste of the white chocolate chips and it’s perfectly combined with the flavour of the strawberries! Oh my!!!
Then I got the chance to shop some of the things I missed on my previous trip: a chandelier with seven Turkish lamps, handmade pottery, a Turkish tea set, a beautiful painting illustrating a place from the old Istanbul with the Hagia Sofia and the Palace on the background, plus a great variety of Turkish delight, baklava and tons of teas and spices.
We opted to stay at Antik Konak Istanbul because we loved how it is decorated in old Turkish style and was close to main tourist attractions. We couldn’t go out for a couple of days but with a view to a mosque and to Marmara Sea I actually loved spending time indoors on the turkish divan, near the large windows, while browsing the web and eating the most delicious turkish sweets we purchased from Haviz Mustafa and Spice Bazaar. One evening it was snowing so beautiful with huge snowflakes, that I couldn’t help but stare. Snow is pretty rare in Istanbul so the next morning we wanted to go out to take pictures in the city, but unfortunately it had already melted. Sometimes we could even hear the seagulls croak and the preyers from the Mosques, which is actually common in Istanbul. You wish or you don’t, you are going to wake up at 6 o’clock in the morning to hear the prayers. I had some of their prayers translated and you know what they say? “Praying is better than sleeping” haha, than I understood why they did this every morning!
