Enya – Caribbean Blue

After visiting Iao Valley, we’ve driven on the West coast of Maui to get to Old Lahaina Luau for a beach party, with traditional food and spectacle. This was an evening party and we’ve arrived in the afternoon, so we had some spare time.
On our way to Old Lahaina Luau, somewhere near the place, we’ve seen a very nice beach which seemed very good for swimming. The west part of Maui faces 2 of its other islands: Molokai and Lanai, so the currents and the waves are much diminished compared to the north-east part, we’ve been visiting until then.

On Road to Hana the beaches were all very beautiful but for the reason mentioned above, we couldn’t get in the water. I’m not sure why this happens, but almost all of the islands we’ve been visiting so far, have one side with beautiful stunning beaches, but with strong currents and big waves and the other side is good for swimming but the beaches there are more like average looking.

I was all dressed up with makeup and everything, ready for the party, but I couldn’t wait to swim in the ocean’s water as well. It was so calm and the water was warm and perfect for swimming, just as we’ve guessed. Plus, people are usually leaving when the sun sets. I don’t understand this, since it’s the most wonderful part of the day. During the day is usually too hot so I actually love swimming on sunset the most.

At Old Lahaina Luau we were welcomed with Hawaiian flower lei and cocktails. We’ve then been brought to our table, which was a traditional way of serving, on low tables, where we dined sitting on cushions on front-row around the stage. We choose this place based on some friends recommendation, since it was closer to the stage and easier to watch the show. Before the show started, people were taking pictures with the beautiful scene, the palms, ocean and the sunset. Others were learning traditional dances guided by the lovely Hawaiian dancers, listening to traditional live Hawaiian music. Haha, yes you’ve guessed it, everything was Hawaiian: dancers, music, food and finally the show. The show started right after all people choose the food from a large buffet. All meals looked delicious, but in reality it was average food and I kind of expected more in regards to quality. It was really funny, because even if it was a great variety and large quantities of food, it really gave the impression that those were only the appetizers, so I was looking for a waiter to ask what are we going to have for the main course. I’m so happy I didn’t spot him right away, as by the time I did, I already realised this is actually the main as well, so I didn’t make a fool of myself, acting like a starved. Also the cocktails we received were sweet and artificial, they didn’t make fresh juices, which is really a pity considering all delicious fruits they have.

The show was really amazing though. It’s hard to describe it so I might make a video to show you guys, parts of the show, and maybe other moments from this trip. I am so glad Juli was there with us, I can’t wait to tell her where she traveled when she was just a lemon in size!
