Driving on Highway 1, was my first time at the Pacific and even though it is the stretch of California, between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the water was very cold and it was windy, not that good for bathing. Actually we’ve been told it is quite the same all year long. Who would have guessed? We were heading to San Francisco and we choose this wonderful site I’ve seen on web – the McWay Cove, for spending the day on the beach.
I thought it would definitely be crowded, but when we got there, there was no one on the beach! Then I understood we are not going to spend our day there either. On 20th of April 1983, there was a massive landslide and this is when this beach was shaped this way. Since the cliffs are so unstable it is forbidden to walk down to the beach. I can’t say I was very comfortable there, after reading all this, but nonetheless driving on the Highway One, you’ll be gratified with some spectacular views. White sand beaches, turquoise water, wind-blown cypresses, palm tress, playful squirrels, curious seagulls, spectacular cliffs and the stunning McWay Cove with beautiful cascade spilling on the beach from some rocks nearby.. who wouldn’t want to be driving there? After all it’s the road leading you to San Francisco!
